Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy is set in a fantasy world made up of three large continents. The elemental balance of this world is governed by four crystals, each tied to one of the classical elements: earth, fire, water, and wind. The world is home to many races—including humans, elves, dwarves, mermaids, dragons, and robots. Most non-human races have only a single town, though individuals can sometimes be found in human settlements or other regions. Four hundred years before the events of the game, the Lefeinish people—who used the Power of Wind to build airships and a massive space station known as the Floating Castle—watched their civilization decline when the Wind Crystal went dark. Two hundred years later, violent storms sank a great shrine that served as the heart of an ocean-based civilization, and the Water Crystal faded as well. The Earth and Fire Crystals soon followed, unleashing raging wildfires and causing the lands around Melmond to decay as the plains and vegetation withered. Some time afterward, the sage Lukahn foretold a prophecy: in an age of darkness, four Light Warriors would appear to save the world.
